Sales index reported a moderate 1.7% growth at the end of 2016

Sales of private sector of the fourth quarter of 2016 grew moderately by 1.7% compared with the same period of 2015.
The hike is slightly higher compared with the growth of 1.4% in the third quarter 2016, however, it is still at lower levels in relation to the economic growth of Albania.
The modest sales growth has happened due to the negative performance of the Albanian industry.
According to the Institute of Statistics, sales in the industry fell by 9.4% compared to the same period a year ago.
The most defining influence continues to be provided by the sales crisis in the mining and extractive industry.
The figure of business in the fourth quarter of 2016 in this sector fell by 20%. But, although in smaller size, the manufacturing industry suffered a decline in sales, with 1.8%.
With the exception of industry, other branches of the economy in the last quarter of last year marked a positive performance.
Construction reported a satisfactory growth, with 6.4% compared with a year earlier, while sales in the services sector grew by 4.7%.
In the section of services, the highest increase was reported in the branch of travel agencies, with 21.8%, and the branch of information and communication, with 11.3%.
Retail sector, which had the highest weight in the index of sales for the last quarter of last year, rose by 3.8%.
