SCAN reveals meetings of IMF team in Tirana
The International Monetary Fund team has launched today the round of meetings with top officials of the Albanian state.
The IMF mission is visiting in Tirana for a series of meetings starting today, until October 3rd.
SCAN television journalist Violeta Shqalsi has unveiled the agenda of meetings that the IMF mission will have.
Two of Wednesday meetings were with Finance Minister Arben Ahmetaj and Governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko.
The topic of the meeting with the Minister of Finance, referring to the agenda, were on recent developments, the progress achieved with structural and fiscal reforms, the policy agenda for the next 4 years, the post-election restructuring of the Ministry of Finance, etc.
Meanwhile, in the meeting with the Governor of the Bank of Albania, the agenda provided for discussions on recent economic developments, monetary policies and developments from the financial sector.
In the afternoon meetings with other executives at the Ministry of Finance were held, which discussed disbursement of new foreign loans for the period 2017-2022 and for other macroeconomic forecasts.
The Ministry of Finance discussed the level of public debt, the state budget, inflation and so on.
Meanwhile, at the Bank of Albania, the meetings revolved around the monetary policy developments.
On September 22, the IMF team is expected to hold meetings with finance ministry executives and deputy minister Erjon Luçi.
The agenda envisions discussions on public investment, the progress of infrastructure projects underway, the implementation of the new law on local finances, the 2018 budget and the public finance management plan for the period 2018-2021.
The agenda also foresees long meetings at the finance ministry on September 26th when new debts of central and local government units and the strategy for preventing new debt crime will be discussed.
Another meeting is that at the Ministry of Finance on September 28th, focusing on the macro-fiscal framework and on the progress of solving the problem of non-performing loans.
Prior to the elections, senior Albanian government officials have warned that this fall will mark a new co-operation agreement with the International Monetary Fund after it has completed the previous 3-year economic recovery program.
Upon completion of the program, the IMF in Albania is now in the role of monitoring the implementation progress of the recommendations.
