Statistics: Imports in Albania fall by 8.6% in 2018, China boosts weight
Albania imports were about ALL 2.4 billion of toys per year, which translates to about EUR 20 million, as well as around ALL 900 million exports, or about EUR 7.2 million. This data refers to 2017. As far as the current year is concerned, data refer to ALL 1.9 billion in imports and ALL 725 million exports. Both in imports and exports, the 11-month trend is decreasing.
During November of this year, ALL about 52 million of toys were imported, less than the same period of the previous year, according to statistics. The data signal a drop in this industry in our country, by 8.6% this year, compared to 2017. It will be very difficult for December to overthrow this decline.
Beside factors related to market performance, one of the main causes of this new trend is undisputed demographic aspect, or rather aging population, and significant decline in the number of small age groups. Regarding the countries of origin of toys, data show that 62% of them come from China. During 2018, China’s weight in this market has grown significantly.
Italy follows holding the second place, with ALL 330 million of imports, or 14% of the market, and third Turkey with 6.25% of the market. Other countries, meanwhile, have very small values. And while China has dramatically increased its share in the domestic market over the last year, Italy has dropped dramatically to show the data.
