Albania increases defense spending – At 1.3% of GDP, or $ 70 per capita. World, spending record at $ 249
Data from the Stockholm Peace Institute show that Albania has modestly increased military spending over the past year, in terms of the weight of gross domestic product. In Albania, the growth is fixed at 0.1 percentage points, from 1.2% to 1.3%. Despite the increase, the rate still falls far short of NATO’s target. NATO member states are committed to spending 2% of GDP on defense.
In absolute terms, Albania’s defense spending over the past year rose to $ 198 million, from 197 million a year earlier. Compared to total government spending, those for defense in 2019 rose to 4.3%, from 3.9% the previous year. So the general trend is for growth. But this trend does not seem to be limited to Albania, and even various countries in the world, led by Germany, have significantly increased military spending over the past year.
