2021, the number of inactive businesses increases / January-April, 3,298 businesses were transferred to the register of passive entities
As in the previous year, in the first months of 2021 has continued the strong growth of the number of businesses with passive status. According to the official data of the General Directorate of Taxes, as of April 14, there are 3,298 businesses which have been transferred to the Passive Register. The rates are approximate, if not slightly higher than in 2020, when a total of 9584 entities were transferred from the tax administration from the Active Register to the Passive Register.
An entity is transferred from the active register to the passive register if at least one of the following conditions is met: it no longer carries out commercial activities for a tax period of 12 consecutive months; does not submit the tax return for a tax period of 12 consecutive months; or declares to the NBC suspension of commercial activity and pays all tax liabilities.
The register summarizes all businesses that have been transferred to the passive register since 1991. In total, there are more than 131 thousand entities, with Tirana marking the highest number with almost 53 thousand businesses followed by Durrës with about 20 thousand entities, to continue with Vlora. It was the year of the Pandemic when the number of transfers increased significantly. In 2018, there were about 120 thousand subjects in the register, a figure that has saved over 130 thousand with the arrival of the Pandemic.
The purpose of publishing this list is to inform third parties not to carry out transactions (sale – purchase) with entities that are part of the passive register. “Any transaction performed by taxpayers, natural or legal persons, traders, who are in the passive register, is considered an administrative violation and is punished in accordance with this law,” said the Tax Administration.
