Albania among the countries with highest percentage of overtime labor
European Union Directives clearly state that employees must have no less than 11 hours of rest from one day to the other, or even within the same day, but in two different shifts.
Moreover, this directive in Albania is also a law, since article 78 of the labor code describes best this norm.
Despite this, Albania turns out to be one of the European countries that applies less than any other country something like this.
Albania ranks among the most problematic countries in this regard.
A recent study shows that 25% of Albanian employees state that such a law does not apply at all. The norm, indisputably, is higher for autonomous work.
By making a comparison with other European countries, or even with those in the region, the difference is clear.
Albania is among the five most problematic countries in this regard, although the case is quite different.
While at the top of the list is Spain together with four Scandinavian countries, Albania is undoubtedly an isolated case.
All of the aforementioned countries are manufacturing economies, and with the exception of Spain, they are all countries with a labor market at full capacity.
The case of Albania, meanwhile, does not fit in any way with these countries, and one of the reasons for not implementing the labor code for employees and the length of work is the lack of trade unions, or rather the lack of real involvement of trade unions.
Another reason is the high informality in the labor market.
