Albanian gov’t OKs privately-built Arber Road project
The government has approved the contract for the construction of the Arber Road, paving the way for the completion of one of the most important infrastructural works in Albania.
The approval came after the signing in February between the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy and Gjoka Company, the winning firm that will implement the project.
In total, construction works will cost around 240m euros, while the state has taken over the contractor’s liquidation within a 13-year period.
This is the first signed contract, based on the “1 billion” scheme, while the contractor has undertaken to initially build the road at their own expenses and maintenance throughout the concession period.
Arber Road will link Tirana with Dibra, passing from Qafë-Murriza, Gur i Bardhe, Vashë Bridge and Bulqiza, and ending in Dibra.
According to the Project, the segment from Tirana to Bulqizë will have a length of 50 km and from Tirana to Bllata 74 km.
15 medium and large bridges are expected to be constructed as part of the project, with a total length of about 1500 m, as well as two tunnels, with respective lengths of 2600 and 560 m.
The deadline for the construction of the road will be 44 months and the timeline for the maintenance and operation of the tunnel 111 months.
