Albanian mobile users ditch texts and calls in favor of data
Albanians spoke on average 172 minutes per month with their mobile phones in the third quarter of this year.
According to data from the Electronic and Postal Communications Authority, the average use of mobile phone calls grew by 15% compared to the same period a year earlier.
The increase in average usage is also due to the gradual decline of active mobile numbers in use.
For the third quarter, the number of active users dropped to 3.29 million, down 16.2% compared to the same period a year earlier.
After putting an end to the differentiation for inbound and outbound calls, users are gradually abandoning the practice of holding several mobile numbers.
Among other things, statistically this is resulting in an increase in the average number of minutës used per mobile phone.
The largest growth in mobile communication services is coming from the broadband internet, which numbers nearly 2.2 million users, about 19% more compared to the third quarter of 2016.
Statistics show that a user consumes an average of 1.91 Gb of internet traffic each month and the figure has been growing steadily since the end of last year, when AKEP first published data on this indicator.
The introduction of the 4G technology and the growth in the use of smart phones is rapidly increasing the use of this service by mobile phones, mainly in the form of smart phones.
