Albanian tour operators saw 40% more tickets during year-end holidays compared to 2016
Although Albania has one of the highest prices for air tickets due to many reasons, this has not prevented Albanian nationals from spending their year-end holidays outside the country.
The Vice President of the Tourist Operations Union Besnik Vathi told SCAN Television that the number of tickets sold during December 2017 was 30 to 40% higher than the same period of the previous year despite the price increase.
“Generally on an average, prices here are much higher than in other countries. If we consider certain periods, it is understandable that you can even find cheaper prices than elsewhere, but here we are talking about an average, for a movement that refers not just to the demand and offer but refers to the costs that an airline in Albania has, in relation to the costs it has in other countries. Growth in the season is generally 30-40%,” Vathi said.
The particularity of 2017, according to Vathi, has been the provision of packages for all categories, enabling travel with low budgets.
“An increase has probably come due to the much larger offer, so it is not only offered for high budgets but also for low budgets. So we have to create the opportunity for a larger clientele layer,” added Vathi.
According to tour operators, one of the most sought after destinations continues to be Greece, and this is because the prices there are cheaper.
Vathi stressed that a novelty for 2018 will be Australia along with Thailand and China, which were introduced as destinations for the first time in 2017.
