In a recent publication, the Financial Supervision Authority analyzes the geography of Insurance for 2019, thus reflecting in detail the distribution of gross written premiums, claims paid and per capita premium, by counties. What can be deduced from the data is that the geographical distribution of gross written premium is observed concentrated in large regions, such as Tirana with 59.63% of the total gross written premiums during 2019, Durrës with 7.51%, Fieri 5.29% , Shkodra 4.94%, Vlora 4.56%, Korça 4.72%. This concentration trend has continued for a period of 12 years.
Another important indicator of the insurance market is the density of insurance. For 2019, this indicator is about 6,168 ALL per capita, with an increase of about 275 ALL compared to a year ago. Regarding the per capita premium by regions, Tirana with 11,551 ALL per capita ranks first, followed by Gjirokastra with 5,962 ALL per capita and further Durrës with 4,535 ALL per capita, Shkodra with 4,332 ALL per capita and Vlora with 4,234 ALL per capita. Dibra and Kukësi, with 2,200 and 2,300 ALL per capita, are the counties with the weakest presence of insurance policies, over 5 times less than Tirana. Even in terms of paid damages, again the share of “lion” is occupied by Tirana with 74.84%, followed by Durrës with 6.78%.
