Customs lost 81 million euros from COVID-19 – In 7 months only July sets revenue record
Albanian customs collected 10 billion lek or 81 million euros less in the first 7 months of the year, compared to the same period a year ago. The decline most affected by the Covid-19 pandemic is recorded at about 10.8 percent. Referring to detailed data from the Ministry of Finance, in 7 months customs revenues are recorded at ALL 82.4 billion from 92.44 billion collected in January-July 2019.
From the monthly data, it can be seen that the weakest month of receipts was March and April, which have suffered a drastic decline compared to May-April 2019, due to the blockage of economic activities, which also affected transport, while it seems that from May the revival has started and July has resulted in the highest revenues in 7 months, with about ALL 14.3 billion. The biggest blow was given to the customs VAT, where in relation to the 7 months of 2019, 7.2 billion less were collected, followed by the excise tax with a decrease of 2.2 billion ALL and the customs taxes decreased the most.
