Decision on tap water price increase in Tirana needs some three more months: WRA’s Ajdini
The demand for the increase of the tap water prices in Tirana will begin to be reviewed in September, while this process may take up to 3 months.
The news was announced for SCAN TV by the member of the National Regulatory Commission at the Water Regulatory Authority, Riza Ajdini, adding that prior to the decision WRA will make a detailed analysis of the performance of the Tirana Water Supply and Sewerage.
“The review of the demand for the increase of the tap water price will begin in September. We will do 3-4 meetings to perform a detailed performance analysis. As far as the documentation is concerned, even if all of it has not been submitted, we have the right to request additional documents. After the first and the second meeting, we also make additional inquiries, in this case for the Tirana Water Supply Company, expecting various missing or supplementary data. It’s a long process that can last 2-3 months,” Ajdini said.
Regarding price differentiation for different categories, Ajdini added that the Water Regulatory Authority cannot set different tariffs on a family basis, but this can only be done through compensation from the municipality or the government.
“We have a single tap water price for all categories of people. The tap water price is one for the whole area or it may vary according to different municipalities.”
On July 26, the Tirana Municipal Council approved the proposal for the increase of tap water tariffs, while it is the WRA, which will take the final decision.
According to the proposal of the municipality, the price of tap water for household subscribers is expected to increase by 20 ALL, going up to 65 Lek / m3 from the currently 45 Lek / m3.
While for private entities this tariff is expected to increase to 190 Lek / m3 from 135 lekë / m3 that it is so far.
