EBRD prolongs the “suffering” of the economy – This year, the decline to 9%, no recovery in the next year
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the most pessimistic institution in the face of the recession of the Albanian economy due to the pandemic, has further increased the doses of pessimism. In the latest economic growth projections for the countries covered by the bank, it turns out that for Albania, the forecast for this year remains the same, at -9%. This continues to be the most negative projection among international institutions for our country. But the bad news lies in the fact that for next year, the EBRD has significantly revised its projections.
While a few months ago he reasoned that in 2021, growth will be at 12%, signaling a full recovery, now the EBRD speaks of only 4.5% growth next year, which indicates that the recovery will take several years . Reconstruction is estimated to be the engine of economic growth next year. Together with Montenegro, Albania is projected as the country with the greatest impact of the pandemic, in terms of economic growth, which is a direct consequence of the two countries’ dependence on tourism. The projections do not take into account a new insulation.
