Grant agreement for the construction of Tirana-Durres-Rinas railway approved
The Parliament’s Production, Trade and Environment Committee has approved the Common European Western Balkans Investment Fund’s 35-million euro grant agreement which is expected to fund the construction works for the Tirana-Rinas-Durres railway.
The winning bid for the implementation of this project is expected to be announced by the end of this year, while, according to estimates, the construction works are expected to be completed within a period of 30 months.
The approval of the agreement paves the way to the full funding of this railway, totaling 90.45 million Euro, which is expected to link Tirana with the Bus Terminal, Rinas Airport and Durres.
The project, entitled “Albanian Railways – Rehabilitation of the Tirana-Durrës Railway and the Construction of the Railway for the Tirana International Airport”, came out as one of the three winning projects at the Paris Summit held in July 2016.
Projects from the six countries of the Western Balkans competed for EU/WBIF funds.
Last month this project was awarded the EMEA Funding Award “Best Rail Project 2017” in the EBRD’s Project Funding category.
