June 25 election: Where do the SP, DP and SMI differ in their economic and tax programmes?
The election campaign of the 2017 vote has started long ago, although only now parties have officially launched door-to-door meetings.
Asking for the vote implies that the parties need to pose their alternative and vision for the next four years.
But what are the alternatives that the three main parties in Albania have presented so far as long as taxes and the economy as concerned.
The Socialist Party
Its program still relies on the progressive tax, but this time the higher salaries that they are on the border of 130 thousand, the tax will be 18 percent and not 23 percent as it currently is.
Profit tax for software companies will be 5 percent while dividends will be taxed at a rate of 6 per cent from 15 per cent currently.
Administration wages will increase by 40 percent, while for pensioners is expected a reward of 7-10 thousand annually.
The target of new jobs for the next four years is set at 220 thousand.
The US $ 1 billion Project for important investment through public-private partnerships remains another important pillar of the SP programme.
The Democratic Party
This party has published its program since 2016. Concerning taxes, it proposes:
9% tax on personal income,
9% corporate tax,
9% social contributions by the employee,
9% from the employer,
15% value added tax which is currently 20% excluding 6 percent in tourism for accommodation facilities.
Regarding the reform of public finances, the Democratic Party has promised:
Restoring the rule of public debt not exceeding 60% of GDP
The level of budget deficit below 3.5%
The ceiling of budgetary spending at 31% of GDP
The DP is also committed to fully subsidize electricity bill up to the extent of 200 kwh for all households that are part of the economic aid scheme.
The Socialist Movement for Integration has presented another alternative:
First, 170 thousand new jobs.
Regarding the taxes, for businesses with an annual turnover of up to ALL 20 million SMI have proposed a profit tax of 5 percent. For those with a turnover 20-100 million, they propose an 8 percent tax. Businesses with a turnover of over 100 million, should be taxed 10%, claims SMI. The current tax is 15%.
Regarding the tax on personal income, SMI proposes that those who are paid up to 35 thousand tax shouldn’t have any tax.
For income from 35 thousand to 200 thousand, an 8% tax on the difference between 35 thousand and 200 thousand. For salaries above ALL 200 thousand, SMI proposes a tax 10 of percent.
