Over 15 thousand families are “excluded” from economic assistance – Gradual decrease of beneficiaries from year to year
Over 15 thousand families have left the economic assistance scheme in the last 5 years. According to official data reflected in the INSTAT survey “Men and women in Albania 2020”, in 2015 there were 79,530 families treated with economic assistance from the state, while in 2019, there are 64,057, or 15,473 families less.
What is noticed is that the number of families that has been supported with financial assistance from the budget has gradually decreased year after year, while in 2019 there is a slight increase compared to a year ago, with about 397 families, which came as a result of the consequences left by the earthquake of 26 November where many citizens were left homeless and became part of the scheme in order to somehow survive the situation.
Divided by gender, for 2019, 59,125 are male heads of households treated with economic assistance and only 4932 are female heads of households, a number which has always been declining. The cleansing of the scheme occurred due to the reform undertaken in this sector a few years ago, where stricter criteria were set for its benefit, causing many families to lose funding.
