Produced energy increased by 8% – Public HPPs dominate production, grid losses are reduced
Despite the unfavorable hydric situation, electricity production during the third quarter increased by 8% compared to the same period a year ago. According to the data of the Institute of Statistics, the production for this period was dominated by public hydropower plants with 76.4% of the total, while private and concession hydropower plants produced 22.8% of energy. This ratio differs from January to June, when according to official data, private and concession HPPs produced more energy than the Drin Cascade hydropower plants.
Meanwhile, solar utilization for energy production remains at modest levels, while the 8 installed plants produced 0.8% of net domestic production. During the period July-September, 13.8% less energy was imported than in the third quarter of last year, while gross exports increased by 32.7%. Consumption of electricity by consumers during this period decreased by 1.9%, while according to INSTAT, the greatest impact on reducing the use of electricity was given by non-household consumers, where we have a decrease in consumption by 5.1 %, despite the 2.5% increase in energy consumed by household consumers.
Meanwhile, grid energy losses improved by 5.1%, while transmission losses fell by 5.4%. Also, technical losses in distribution marked a decrease of 3%, while non-technical losses in distribution marked a decrease of 8.4%, compared to the third quarter of 2019.
