Production of oranges – Eurostat, in Albania higher potential than in Europe
Of the 200 hectares planted, Albania has produced 9100 tons of oranges during 2017, according to Eurostat’s latest data. According to the EU statistics agency, in Europe, orange is produced in only 10 countries, mostly Mediterranean.
Among these 10 countries, Albania is in the 8-th place for annual output, better than Malta, with a significantly lower cultivation area, and that Croatia, a country with a rather unfavorable climate as well as surface small cultivation as a consequence.
Thus, Albania represents 0.07% of the area cultivated with oranges in Europe, and 0.14% of all European produce of the same fruit. This means that production in our country is beyond the European potential, two times above this rate.
At the European level, Spain stands at 3.3 million tons, followed by Turkey, with 1.9 million, Italy with 1.5 million, Greece with 960, Portugal with 313, Cyprus with 21 and France with 10 thousand.
