Reimbursement fund for 2018 at ALL 40bln, radiotherapy and cataract treatment included
Albanian patients will benefit in 2018 from two new packages reimbursed by the Fund.
A Decree of the Council of Ministers will also reimburse this year the cataract treatment packages as well as the linear accelerator radiotherapy service package.
The health insurance budget for 2018 is ALL 40 billion and 400 million, of which about ALL 10 billion and 400 million will be used for reimbursement of medicines.
According to the Ministry of Health’s forecasts, starting of the work of the linear accelerator for patients treated with radiotherapy will be in the value of ALL 8 billion, including five new cytostatics for the treatment of breast cancer.
Compulsory Health Insurance Fund will reimburse the blood glucose meters for people 0-18 years of age who are suffering from diabetes. The costs for treating a diabetic patient are direct and indirect.
Indirect costs, which in Albania are not measured, are those that show the performance of a patient with diabetes.
Direct costs include all the expenditure to keep the disease under control.
If a person is not insured, they not receive insurance reimbursement, which for a patient can cost from ALL 5,000 to 20,000 according to their condition.
For people who have the first type of diabetes, and as a result they need to make more often the blood glucose measurement, the costs are even higher because the state did not reimburse the measurement before this decree.
The price of such a meter is 50 Lek, but for four to five measurements per day this amount heavily burdens the pocket of a patient.
Compulsory Health Insurance Fund also reimburses packages of cardiology, dialysis, kidney transplant and cochlear implants for children who suffer from severed hearing.
