Small businesses give gov’t two weeks time to withdraw VAT scheme
One day following the one-hour strike of the small business in Albania and the Finance Minister’s explanation of the effects of their inclusion in the VAT scheme, small businesses have urged the government to withdraw this decision within the next two weeks, otherwise they will hold numerous protests, including a hunger strike.
The Small and Medium Business Association emphasized that the inclusion in the VAT scheme of about 9900 entities will significantly increase costs and lead them to bankruptcy.
Some business associations have joined a new umbrella body called “Alliance against VAT”, aiming to force the Ministry of Finance to withdraw from this new scheme.
Businesses appeal to Minister Ahmetaj to sit at a discussion table with interest groups.
Starting from April 1, businesses with annual turnover of over 2 million ALL have been included in the VAT scheme, while the move has sparked protests all over the country not only from the small businesses but also from the ranks of the opposition.
