We are the most expensive country in the region! Consumer prices for households have risen in the last 3 years
Consumer prices in Albania for households are 57.5% of the European Union average, according to the latest data from the European Statistical Office. The figures refer to 2019 and show that Albania is already even more expensive than Montenegro in terms of consumer prices for households, including taxes, ranking first in the region.
The previous year, prices for family members were 55.8% of the European average, while in 2017 it was around 52%. In fact, in 2017 Albania was the second cheapest country in the region, according to the latest Eurostat figures, more expensive only than Northern Macedonia, while now holding the first place in the region as the most expensive country for families.
Eight years ago, meanwhile, in 2012, Albania turned out to be the cheapest country in the region, even cheaper than Northern Macedonia. The performance of the consumer price index over the last year, under the pandemic, with one of the fastest rates in Europe, signals that Albania will further increase the gap with other countries in the region in terms of this indicator, being reconfirmed as the most expensive place in the region.
At the continental level meanwhile, Iceland is the most expensive country for families, almost 59% above the European average.
