Albania ranked among the best performing EU countries in renewable energy sources: EUROSTAT
The latest data published by Eurostat show that Albania is one of the countries with the highest rate of renewable energy sources in Europe.
Comparative data from Eurostat refer to 2016 and they reveal that the renewable energy consumption rate is at 37.1%.
Better than Albania in this respect are Sweden, Iceland, Norway or Montenegro.
Meanwhile, the European Union average is fixed at only 17%, ie almost half of the country’s rate.
Albania’s target for 2020, meanwhile, is fixed at 38%, which seems more than feasible given the performance of recent years.
In 2004, this rate in Alban was fixed at 27.4%, thus almost 10 percentage points below the current level. Progress is highly noticeable.
Albania’s good performance compared to others in this regard comes exclusively as a result of the dependence of the energy system from the hydro power plants.
The latter meet almost 100% of the demand on the market, while in various European countries nuclear energy is widespread.
