Albanian Development Fund eyes new airport in Korca area
Tirana International Airport has enjoyed a contractual exclusivity until 2016 as the sole airport in Albania and that has resulted in suppressing any possibility for the Albanian government to pave the way for a second airport in the country.
But immediately after the expiration of this exclusivity, it seems that there is a big interest in building new airports in several corners of Albania.
Following the opening of the procedure for a feasibility study for an airport in the south, now it is the turn of an airport in Korca.
At least, this is what is shown by the procedure opened by the Albanian Development Fund, which has decided to finance the feasibility study for this future airport in Albania.
The technical documents state that this procedure comes after a request by municipalities of the area.
“The terms of reference for this study are based on the demand that the municipalities of Korca, Pogradec, Kolonja, Devoll, Maliq and Pustec addressed to the ADF to finance a feasibility study for the construction and operation of an airport in the area of Lumalas (Korce). To this end, the Governing Council of the ADF, has approved the respective fund to finance the feasibility study of Korca Airport,” reads the document.
On the other hand, this is not the first study being conducted for an airport in the area of Korca.
Earlier, in 2007, a study was conducted by the Albanian Development Fund which provided interesting data and a good base to conduct a new study to address the changes that have occurred in the meantime.
The fund allocated for this study is 7.3 million ALL and bids must be submitted by March 3, 2017.
