Albania’S FDI impact in GDP 50% less than Western Balkans average: UN report
In Albania, foreign direct investment is translated into 1717 dollars per capita in 2016 in simplified terms.
The figure is the total of foreign direct investments in the country, namely the capital injected over the years, and which is still present.
This is what the United Nations states in its latest investment report for Southeast European countries.
Albania hold the fourth spot among the seven economies, and apart from the Western Balkan countries, the report also analyzes Moldova.
Regarding foreign direct investment stock in relation to gross domestic product, Albania has the lowest rate in the region, together with Bosnia and Herzegovina, at only 41%.
It turns out that, compared to EU countries, Albania has 9 times less foreign direct investment per capita.
In terms of percentage, in relation to the Gross Domestic Product, in the European Union this rate is slightly above that of Albania, with only 6 percentage points.
But this is result of the fact that the economies of the EU are larger and not due to the difference in the injection of foreign capital.
Compared to the region, however, in Albania the foreign investment rate in relation to GDP is 50% less.
