How far is Albania from Germany? – Wiiw: As much as 13% of GDP per capita, but has narrowed the gap by 11% in the last two decades
Germany, for years, seems to be the “America” of Albanians, not only due to the fact that Europe’s largest economy has opened its doors to Albanians, but also as a result of the very high standard of living it offers as a country. But how far are Albania and Germany really? Our country has as much as 13% of Germany’s Gross Domestic Product per capita, says a study recently published by the Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies on the Western Balkans.
What stands out from the graph is the fact that Albania has narrowed the gap with Germany by about 11% over the last two decades. This rate does not seem very sensitive, but it is the second highest among the Western Balkan countries, only after Montenegro. For other Central and Eastern European countries, the convergence rate is significantly higher, up to 35% in the case of Lithuania. Kosovo, meanwhile, is the country with the lowest progress, narrowing the gap with Germany by less than 5% in the last two decades.
