Mobile network market in Albania sees a decline in Q4 2017
The mobile network market in Albania has reported a decline in most of the indicators in the fourth quarter of 2017.
According to data from the Electronic and Postal Communications Authority, the number of active subscribers for internet broadband and mobile services dropped by nearly 6% over Q4.
According to AKEP, the number of active mobile phone users, or more specifically active mobile numbers, has decreased by 222,000 units in the fourth quarter.
While broadband users from mobile networks were 128 thousand less compared to the third quarter, marking a decline for the first time after several consecutive quarters on the rise.
Vodafone, Albtelecom and Plus have experienced a significant decline in the number of users, while only Telekom Albania has reported an increase.
The decrease in the number of users has also affected the use of services that operators provide.
Outgoing telephone calls decreased by 7% compared to the third quarter, while the written messages were 0.4%.
There has been a decline in the average usage view as well, with each subscriber talking 150 minutes per month, from 152 minutes of the third quarter.
The service where the market is growing is the internet, with an average of 2.3 GB per user per month.
Following the exit from the market of the Plus Communication operator and the change of the head of AKEP, this institution has taken some new regulatory measures for the mobile phone market aimed at protecting market competition.
