The National Natural Resources Agency has closed an oil exploration deal with SHELL involving Block 4.
The news was confirmed by the new director of this department, Adrian Bylyku, during his presentation by the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Damian Gjiknuri.
According to Bylyku, the contract was forwarded to the ministry for approval and then it was passed on to the Council of Ministers.
“This year is considered successful, especially for the hydrocarbon sector, since we have reached an agreement with SHELL involving Block 4. Thanks to the positive spirit created by the government for attracting foreign investment, this contract has been reached and was forwarded to the Ministry for approval and it is expected to be passed on to the Council of Ministers. We note that SHELL is continuing its oil and gas exploration operations in Blocks 2 and 3”, Bylyku said.
Block 4 includes the area between Saranda and Gjirokastra, while invitations for applications were initially made by NNRA in 2015.
Currently, SHELL is implementing oil extraction operations in block 2 and 3, in the Berat area.
