Pandemic “shocks” the customs – 63.5 million euros lost, April suffered the biggest blow
Customs have collected about 54.9 billion ALL in the first 5 months of the year, losing 7.9 billion ALL or 63.5 million euros compared to the first 5 months of 2019. Official financial data show the strong impact that customs revenues have received, due to measures taken against Covid-19 pandemic and significant inhibition of business activity.
Specifically, the total decrease is 12.5 percent and the months that have lost the most money are March, April and May, which coincide with the months of declaring a state of emergency. During these months when the country was under the “power” of Coronavirus infection, all customs revenue indicators declined.
The biggest revenue shock came in April, with a loss of ALL 4.5 billion compared to April 2019. According to official INSTAT data, for the first five months, imports fell by 17% compared to last year, which is the main indicator of declining customs revenues.
