PM Rama and DP’s Basha exchange spats over 2018 draft budget
The opposition and the ruling majority have involved in discussions in Parliament in favor and against the 2018 budget.
Prime Minister Edi Rama said that the draft budget reduces Albania’s public debt, adding that it will also increase investment in each sector starting with infrastructure, agriculture, culture, etc.
As for the DP’s proposed amendments, Rama considered them as a sign that the right-wing opposition have no alternative to offer whatsoever, while labeling the proposals a sluggish repeat of the 2005 draft.
An immediate reaction came from the Democratic Party leader Lulzim Basha, who considered the draft as the budget through which this government will whitewash narcotics money in the form of public private partnership.
Basha assessed that the proposed fiscal package is devastating for the business community, while accusing the prime minister of putting the small business under assault and favoring the big business operating in the country.
There were also debates over the proposed construction of three different incinerators in the country.
Prime Minister Rama dismissed the opposition’s allegations claiming that the facilities will put an end to the environmental pollution plaguing the country.
Rama also rejected the figure that the DP has claimed as the bill of the concession, namely 400mln euros, while stating that the real figure is only 54mln euros.
