Professionalism at work, we are better than the region – WB and Wiiw report: “There are jobs, but no professionals” is worth less in Albania
“There are jobs, but there are no professionals” is an expression that has constantly accompanied not only the government’s excuses in recent years for labor market problems, but also enterprise complaints. The latest report from the Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies (Wiiw) and the World Bank on employment trends in the region shows that, yes, the problem exists, and is even deeper, but not as deep as in other countries in the region.
According to the report, other countries in the region have this problem much more pronounced than we do. In Albania, about 55% of firms report difficulties in employment due to lack of skills and experience, and about 50% only due to lack of skills. For other countries in the region, the rate rises above 60%, and almost 90% in the case of Northern Macedonia. The data show that for large companies, with more than 100 employees, the problem becomes even greater, as in innovative ventures.
