Tax hikes cited as main concern for Albanian CEOs: PwC survey
Tax hikes are the main concern for business executives in Albania.
According to a survey conducted by Pricewaterhouse Coopers, a multinational professional services network headquartered in London,, 85% of Albanian managers see the hikes as the main threat to the prospect of growing their business.
It is not the first time that tax hikes result at the top of the list of concerns in surveys with domestic and foreign investors.
Perhaps due to the lack of a historical taxation culture and a long period characterized by high informality, Albanian entrepreneurs are very sensitive whenever they have to pay more to the state.
Looking at global results of the PricewaterhouseCoopers survey, the main concern of business managers in the world is geopolitical uncertainty, followed by over-regulation and cyber threats.
While Albanian heads are less concerned about major global developments and they focus more on domestic issues, such as the growth of fiscal burden in recent years.
However, they are also sensitive to issues like the future of the Eurozone.
This ranks second among the potential threats to boost their business.
Due to the close economic and trade ties, Albanian managers are well aware of the dependence of the Albanian economy on the Eurozone.
At the same level as the future of the Eurozone, 82% of respondents perceive insufficient basic infrastructure as a serious concern.
For more than 20 years, PricewaterhouseCoopers has conducted a global survey with company leaders, where they give their opinions about the business climate, the achievements of the year and the operational challenges in the short and medium term.
This year, this survey included for the first time 34 leaders of important companies in Albania.
