Toll payment will start after finding a solution with the residents of Kukes, states PM Rama
“We will not start the toll system in the Nation’s Road without finding the best solution for citizens of the area”.
This was Prime Minister Edi Rama’s statement at a Parliament session which no opposition MPs attended.
After a few days of protests by the citizens from the area and all over Albania, the prime minister admitted that no consultations have been made and that the tariff will first be explained.
“What needs to be repeated on my part and the government is the awareness for our responsibility over the lack of explanations and clarifications on this issue. We did not have the proper intuition to understand the necessity of clarifying all this matter before setting the toll system,” PM Rama said.
Regarding the opposition protest in support of the citizens, Rama alleged that they are using the moment to attract as many people as possible within the ranks of their cause.
“Since the opposition is not here, I will not deal with the why and how of an opposition that has lost its way and asks to attract as many people as possible on its dead end road, but I will deal with what is our duty , a persistent explanation of the issue that has caused the disappointment of the residents of the Kukes area,” PM Rama said.
Rama emphasized the importance of payment for road maintenance, to avoid according to him, a gap that can be created in the future.
The prime minister claimed that the state needs the tarriffs to pay for the roads, saying that the principal obligation payment for roads in one year amounts to $ 110 million, 37% of which covered the Nation’s Road.
