$ 500m Turkey-Albania trade exchanges deemed as “insufficient” by joint committee
Trade exchanges between Albania and Turkey are around $ 500 million, a figure that is not enough for the economy of the two countries, according to Turkish trade attaché Halis Kaya.
“Between Albania and Turkey we have a trading value of about $ 500 million, but we normally see this as too small and insufficient. We will need to increase trade exchanges in order to help the two countries for their economies,” said Kaya.
Customs exchanges between the two countries often have problems with the declaration of the value of goods or their quantity.
According to Kaya, these issues are being worked out. While the Turkish side is eager to see both countries as transit routes to promote more economic development in their respective economies.
“There are problems concerning the statement of the value of the goods, as well as with the statement of the quantity of goods: sometimes the Albanian authorities inform us, sometimes they ask us to reshape the prices and we answer them within the two institutions we have built between our countries. Normally, one of the reasons for my visit to Albania today is the talks on enhancing this cooperation, increasing trade exchanges between our countries, but also on another topic for developing the possibility of using our two countries as two transit countries, because as you know, Albania and Turkey are two key countries for transit of goods,” Kaya said.
The Turkish Chamber of Commerce and Industry has a working breakfast with all its members to discuss the issues they face in the customs system.
All these issues will then be discussed at the Albania-Turkey Joint Customs Committee, which is being held for the first time.
