Albania first in Europe for poverty – UNICEF data show that phenomenon affecting 18.000 children in the country
Albania has the highest rate of children living in what is known as multidimensional poverty across Europe.
This is the conclusion that results from a report released recently by UNICEF.
This report estimates that in the country there are about 18 thousand children living in poverty, and this translates to 2.1% of the total children in Albania.
This norm is far from that of other European countries.
In Albania the phenomenon is more prevalent than in countries such as the Palestinian State, Jamaica, St. Lucia, Thailand, Mexico or Kyrgyzstan, to name a few.
There is no competition in this regard as far as other countries in the region are concerned.
Macedonia is the closest to Albania in the region, but at a rate more than twice as low, to only 0.9%.
Then follow Bosnia and Herzegovina with 0.9%, Montenegro with 0.6% and Serbia with 0.4%.
No country of the region is comparable with Albania in absolute terms, or in the total of children living in poverty.
Part of the list are only underdeveloped countries and the presence of Albania together with all the other countries in the region on this list shows that there is a real difference with the European Union.
As it is clear from the table, the list mostly includes countries from Africa, South America, Southeast Asia and Western Asia.
