Albania needs dedicated prosecution office to fight corruption: Konrad Adenauer Stiftung head
The director of the renowned German Foundation, Kondrad Adenauer, in an interview with journalist Arbër Hitaj on RTV SCAN’s PASSPORT show, talked about the role of this foundation in Albania and its future projects.
Mr. Walter Gloss, while speaking about justice reform, calls for the establishment of a special prosecutor’s office to fight corruption and organized crime.
According to Gloss, the justice reform is one of the most important criteria for Albania’s membership in the European Union.
“Personally, I have a lot of appreciation for all that Albania has achieved so far in the judicial reform. We all know it’s not easy to implement this comprehensive reform, with all the details that constitute it, and all the areas where it needs to be implemented. But Albania has done a lot in the field of judicial reform, and out of the five criteria, I believe that as far as the reform of justice is concerned Albania has done a great deal forward.”
“I do not want to speak about the distant past but for the near past, and a few years ago in July 2016 it took some pressure from the US and the EU to approve parliamentary reform,” Gloss said.
Gloss stressed that more needs to be done in the fight against organized crime and corruption, and a significant success must be achieved to show the critics that we are doing a lot.
According to Mr. Gloss, the adoption of the decriminalization law has been very positive, but more needed to be done in the last two years.
