EC revises economic projections on Albania
The Albanian economy will grow at a faster pace than one month ago, says the European Commission in its latest published report.
The report in question cover autumn, and it publishes projections and assessments not only for the economies of the European Union countries, but also for the candidate countries, including Albania, which was dedicated a special profile.
As far as projections for this year are concerned, they have been revised upwards from 3.7%, projected in spring and reconfirmed in the report of candidate countries published in mid-October, at 4% in the newly published report.
But, on the other hand, the European Commission has slightly revised projections for economic growth over the next year, at 3.8% from 3.9% previously projected.
Brussels clarifies that this deterioration of the projections and the slowdown in growth will come as a result of the slowdown in investment, closely related to the two major projects in our country, TAP and Devoll.
As far as 2019 is concerned, the European Commission estimates that the Albanian economy will grow at a rate close to 4.2%.
Unemployment projections have also been revised positively. At this point, the European Commission clarifies that growth will gain leverage from private consumption.
The report states that political risks have been significantly reduced after the June elections, and which are related to fiscal consolidation.
However, Brussels says that the risks are still present and are closely related to the weakness in managing public finances, which pose a challenge to executing public budgets according to the plan.
