EU sets 6 tasks for Albania in its Economic and Financial Dialogue
Western Balkan countries and Turkey have unanimously agreed to accelerate economic and social reforms to strengthen macroeconomic stability and boost competitiveness, as well as inclusive growth.
This was stated in the annual Economic and Financial Dialogue with the European Union.
The sides adopted together conclusions that include specific policy guidance for each country, based on the economic reform programs of seven Western Balkan countries and Turkey, among which five are candidate countries and two potential candidate countries.
Regarding Albania, the European Commission gives six recommendations, which the government in Tirana has agreed to undertake.
First, Brussels speaks for continuation of fiscal consolidation, with the major goal being reducing public debt, and, if necessary, taking additional measures.
Secondly, better tax collection and broadening of the tax base.
Thirdly, addressing non-performing loans and increasing use of ALL currency. At this point it is recommended that AMF powers should be increased.
Fourthly, Albania is committed to provide full separation of transmission and distribution activities of electricity and gas sectors.
Fifth, the government should continue the process of clarifying the ownership of agricultural land and property registration, as well as should create a comprehensive functional cadaster and e-cadaster in 2019.
Finally, the government should increase the capacity of employment services and the provision of active labor market measures for the unemployed and inactive people.
In this point, Albania is committed to develop concrete plans by the end of the year to address the problem of undeclared work.
Regarding economic program last year, Brussels stressed that it was implemented only partially.
