Fasons, even in 2019 more profit / Revenues reached 452 million euros
Revenue from custom work in the Albanian economy increased again in 2019. According to the Bank of Albania, revenues from the tailoring sector amounted to 452m euros. Compared to 2018, revenues from freight processing services on behalf of foreign contractors increased by 8%. Continued growth in recent years is believed to have created reserves in important enterprises in this sector to cope with the pandemic of COVID 19.
The epidemic is thought to reduce demand and decline. In this first phase, entrepreneurs complain about difficulties in the supply of raw materials, but in the meantime the work process has been hampered by the quarantine set up in order to curb the spread of the epidemic.
The tailoring sector, especially in the textile and footwear industries, withstood the years of economic crisis. Thanks to its proximity to Western Europe, the experience gained in 25 years, but also thanks to very low salaries, Albanian tailoring is not only able to survive, but also to grow year after year.
This sector is the group with the highest weight among Albanian exports, with over 40% of the total. But, meanwhile, fason activity is spreading to more specialized segments of the industry, although here Albania is behind compared to neighboring countries and especially to Northern Macedonia.
According to entrepreneurs, the lack of labor force remains one of the main problems in diversifying the basis of activities that may partially shift production processes in Albania.
