How old is Albania? – Eurostat: Only 14% of the population, elderly. South and North, older than the center
The outbreak of a global pandemic caused by the Sars-covid-19 virus, perhaps more than ever before, has turned attention to the elderly.
The data recently published by Eurostat show not only the different countries of Europe, but also the regions within these countries, in terms of the rate of the elderly, ie those over 65 years of age, in relation to the population.
From these data it results that Albania is one of the youngest countries in Europe, ie that there are fewer elderly people in the composition. In our country, the rate of those over 65 years of age in the population is fixed at 14%, according to Eurostat data.
Only Northern Macedonia and Montenegro, along with Turkey, are countries in the same category as us, compared to Europe, with an aging rate of less than 17.5% of the total population.
The list also includes some regions of Eastern Europe, part of Ireland, as well as some Scandinavian regions.
On the other hand, the oldest regions are Tuscany, Liguria, and Piedmont in Italy, along with northern Spain, Greece, central France, and eastern Germany. But in Albania, how are the regions divided?
The south turns out to be slightly older than the center and north. In the south the rate of those over 65 years of age over the total population rises to 14.2%, in the north to 14.1% and in the center it drops to 13.9%.
