Minister Gjiknuri attends joint EU-Western Balkans meeting in Ljubljana
Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Damian Gjiknuri presented the Albanian government’s road safety and infrastructure development projects during the meeting of transport ministers of the Western Balkan countries.
The meeting, initiated by the European Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc, was held in Ljubljana, Slovenia and it was attended by representatives from Turkey and from European Union member countries such as Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Greece, Romania and Cyprus.
“Albania’s case with neighboring countries was presented as a good model in this regard. I was given the opportunity to introduce the projects of the Albanian Government regarding road safety, but above all the infrastructure development projects. I also explained the financial support schemes through the Private Public Partner as one of the ways of improving infrastructure in the country, which was also mentioned by the commissioner. We also discussed a European Union fund to address all hot spots, as dangerous sites are called, namely all identified transport nodes in South East Europe,” Gjiknuri stated.
According to Minister Gjiknuri, the presence of representatives of the European Union countries also shows their interest in the process.
“This shows the increased interest in this process as well as the involvement of other countries in what are called important European corridors,” Gjiknuri said.
Meanwhile, at the end of the meeting, the ministers also agreed on two statements aimed at joint engagement in enhancing road safety and facilitating border crossing.
