PM Rama meets President Macron as France singled out as skeptical to Albania’s EU accession talks
As Albania hurries to make its last lobbying efforts to remove the obstacles to the opening of country’s EU accession talks, Prime Minister was received today by French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace.
France is one of the skeptical countries, while during the presentation of the progress-report at the EU parliament, President Macron stated that the EU should not allow new members to join until it is integrated deeper and reformed.
Meanwhile, media outlets in Tirana claim that Macron and Rama had a tete-a-tete meeting for more than 45 minutes.
According to sources, Macro has appreciated the positive results with the reforms, especially the ones with the fight against organized crime and corruption.
This is the second visit that Rama holds in this context, following the one in Germany where he held a meeting with Chancellor Angela Merkel and deputies of the German Bundestag.
The European Commission has recommended the unconditional opening of membership negotiations, while the European Council is expected to take its decision in mid-June.
