Rinas concession changes – Balluku: We have not violated any law
The Parliamentary Committee on Economy and Finance has overturned the decree of President Ilir Meta to reconsider the change of the concession contract for Rinas Airport. Representatives of the presidency said that the review of the concession was done in violation of legal procedures, as well as contrary to the instructions of the Central Election Commission to sign new contracts, before the April 25 elections.
The Minister of Infrastructure, Belinda Balluku, denied the accusations, saying that there is also a correspondence with the CEC, which has allowed the changes in the concession contract.
The Rinas airport concession contract expired in 2022, but the government predicted a 12-year extension, linking it to the situation created by COVID-19 in the aviation industry, which according to Eurocontrol will take 5-10 years to return to the normal situation. Meanwhile, the changes in the terms in this contract are expected to lead to a reduction in the price of air tickets as a result of the reduction of passenger fares, direct lines for trans-ocean flights, as well as the liberalization of land and fuel service. According to the changes, the passenger fare will go to 10 euros, from the current 12.5 euros, while for children aged 2-12 the reduction is provided at 40%. Meanwhile, due to the liberalization of land service, the price of air tickets is projected to decrease by 20%.
