Tourism becoming a big employer in Tirana, claims Mayor Veliaj
Tourism in the Albanian capital has increased by 2.5 times, causing a positive impact on Tirana’s economy.
The statement was made by Mayor Erion Veliaj on the International Tourism Day, while adding that this sector is becoming one of the biggest employers in Tirana.
“Today, there is a two and a half times increase of tourism as far as employed people are concerned, including the culinary sector, services, catering, tourist guides, etc. It is becoming one of the biggest employers in the city and I believe that this is the future first of Tirana, and then of all Albania.”
The Mayor’s statements were made at the opening of a new info point for all those visiting the capital, providing information on public transport, tour operators, guides, as well as on the numerous cultural and sports activities happening in the country.
“I am very happy today that on the International Tourism Day we opened an Info Point, a tourist-focused information center for the city of Tirana, here at the zero kilometer, in the Skanderbeg Square. We increasingly believe that tourism will be a way of how Tirana’s economy will function. Apart from being the epicenter of art, culture, economy, finance, education and university life, Tirana is undoubtedly the primary tourist destination before tourists explore the other parts of Albania.”
The head of the municipality said that thanks to the investments made in these two years, the capital guarantees the tourists numerous attractions, genuinely combining its past and Tirana’s modern vision of the future.
