Albanian emigrants working in Italy contribute 12 bln euro, about 1% of GDP
256 thousand Albanians, regular immigrants in Italy and in regular working relationships, contribute 12 billion euros to the economy of the neighboring country, a recent report states.
This report finds that foreign migrants working in the country are 2.4 million, and produce about 131 billion euros in form of taxes, which translates to 9% of the country’s gross domestic product.
With 256,383 immigrants in 2016, Albanians are the second largest group after those of Romania, which numbered 662,000.
This means that Albanians contribute to the Italian economy about 12 billion euros a year, which translates to almost 1% of Gross Domestic Product.
If we take into account the fact that a large part of Albanians in the neighboring country have already become Italians by citizenship, or even the fact that only contributions are taken into account, not the impact of Albanians that owe a business, which in fact are at least 32 thousand according to the latest figures, then the real contribution of Albanians to the Italian economy far exceeds the 1% rate.
The amount of 12 billion euros refers only to contributions to social security and income tax.
The impact of about 1% of Gross Domestic Product alone from the taxes that apply to wages is a relatively high rate for a country that has been suffering from an economic growth below 1% for years.
