Employment grew by 1.9% in Q3 2017; services and industry had greatest impact

Employment in Albania has increased by 1.9 percent in the third quarter of 2017.

According to the Institute of Statistics, in quarterly terms, employment has increased by 1.4 percent, compared to the second quarter of this year.

In annual terms, the data shows that employment for the population 15 year old and over has shown a growing trend.

Meanwhile, the official unemployment rate in Q3 2017 for this population is at the level of 13.6 percent, down 1.1 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

Regarding the rate of participation in the labor force for the population of 15-64 years old in this quarter is 67.1 percent, and compared with the same period last year there was a decrease of 0.2 percent.

According to the report, the rate of participation in the labor force is 18 percent higher for men than for women.

This indicator, compared to the same quarter last year, has increased by 0.7 percent for males and by 1.2 percent for females.

Regarding the degree of participation in the labor force by age groups, the data show that for the age group of 30-64 years old it is 77.5 percent, and for young people aged 15-29 it is 45.2 percent.

As far as the employment rate for men aged 15-64 is concerned, there is a 1.3% increase in the trend, while for women it has reported a decrease of 0.3% compared to the same period last year, reports SCAN.

The employment rate for young people is at 33.5 percent, while this indicator for the age group 30-64 is 69.3 percent.

The highest employment growth for the population of 15 years and over was recorded in the services sector by 8 per cent, in annual terms, followed by the industry sector with a growth of 0.8 per cent.

While the sector of agriculture declined in the same period of 2016, with 3.8 percent.

Data show that unemployment for both sexes has declined compared with Q3 2016, respectively with 1 percent for males and 1.4 percent for females.
