Gov’t allocates $4.5m for civil emergencies in 2018
In order to cope with civil emergencies during 2018, the Council of Ministers has envisaged a fund of ALL 479 million, approximately USD 4.5 million.
$ 1.8 million from this fund consists of capital expenditures, while the remaining $ 2.8 million is slated to go for facing emergency situations in Albania.
For the first time, the Civil Emergency Fund has been accorded to the Ministry of Defense, which will be responsible for such cases starting from January 1, 2018.
The $ 2.8 million fund seems low referring to annual damages caused by floods.
While we do not yet have a financial bill for damages caused by floods in the country in late November and early December, it appears that the state budget will paty a heavy price to damaged businesses in the Tirana-Durrës Highway.
In this segment are located some of the large businesses in the country that reported significant damages.
SCAN has learned that only a few days after the flood, at least three of these businesses have hastened to provide courts with evidence of the suffered damage, in order not to let the government institutions determine the value of the compensation.
