Administrative Court rejects suspension of work for HPPs along Valbona river
Tirana Administrative Court has issued its verdict on the case of Hydropower Plants along the Valbona River in the northern Alps of Albania.
Following the deferment of its decision on Wednesday, the tribunal has ruled to reject the demand of the residents of the area and the Land Association, thus allowing the continuation of works on the construction of two HPPs.
The court began reviewing the case at the beginning of October, following the dismissal of the plaintiff’s claim by the First Instance Administrative Court.
In the indictment, 27 residents of the district villages requested the immediate termination of works for the construction of the Hydropower Plants, while also noting the support of many other domestic and foreign organizations, including the diplomatic corps serving in the country such as the German ambassador.
In addition to the ecological damage, the residents expressed concern that the work on the construction of the HPPs have continued at a rapid pace, while adding that explosions shake every night their houses while the riverbed has become dry.
