Blue Eye visited by 30 thousand tourists last year
The natural beauties of Albania seems to increasingly attract more and more foreign tourists every year and one of these spots is the Blue Eye, known in Albania as Syri i Kalter.
According to the Head of the Agency of National Protected Areas, Zamir Dedej, the number of tickets handed to visitors of Blue Eye amounted in 2016 to 30 thousand while revenues amounted to ALL 3 million.
“We have drafted a working plan for the revenues of economic activities within protected areas. I can tell you a figure, the Blue Eye has handed 500 to one thousand tickets. Last year we had about 30 thousand visitors at the Blue Eye, which was a very positive figure,” Dedej said for SCAN TV.
According to ANPA, tourism in the area will now be extended throughout the year.
Soon a news visitor center will be established, thanks to this contract, which the agency is expected to sign with a local association.
Blue Eye is opposite Krongj village, 45 meters below the level of the Drina valley.
Syri i kaltër is a water spring and natural phenomenon occurring near Muzinë in Vlorë County, Albania. A popular tourist attraction, the clear blue water of the river bubbles forth from a stunning, more than fifty-metre-deep pool. Divers have descended to fifty metres, but it is still unclear what the actual depth of the karst hole is.
This is the initial water source of Bistricë river , 25 km long, which ends in the Ionian Sea south of Sarandë.
The source stands at an altitude of 152 m and has a discharge rate of 18400 l/s.
The immediate area (180 ha) is a nature reserve and is characterized by oak and sycamore trees. In summer 2004, the source was temporarily dried up.
