Joint Albania-Macedonia customs will facilitate trade procedures

Facilitation of customs procedures between Albania and Macedonia was the focus of the meeting between Albania’s Speaker of Parliament Gramoz Ruci and his Macedonian counterpart Talat Xhaferi.

Among other things, Ruçi and Xhaferi in the joint press conference have also referred to the actuality in Albania regarding the election of the Prosecutor General.

“We agreed that both parties, both our parliaments, to address the pending issues, inclxuding previous agreements between the Macedonian and Albanian state institutions, such as those of the problem of addressing waters and their impact on the environment; such as reviewing border waters; such as the facilitation of the movement of goods and people and to help this, we agreed that the return of the border and customs point of Qafë Thana should be a common customs and border point in order to come to assistance to Macedonian and Albanian citizens as well as encouraging the reactivation of the border crossing point of Zhapishta with a 24-hour regime, as well as the re-opening of the Ohrid – St. Naum – Pogradec ferry line especially for the summer period, or the other problem of certification and mutual recognition of standards, especially for agricultural and electoral products,” Ruçi said.

“In the capacity of the Speaker of the Assembly, I will endeavor to offer my maximum contribution that cooperation between our two countries deepens even more in all spheres. As I mentioned earlier, as a state we are determined to focus on the path of civic society, based on equal opportunities for all, with particular emphasis on inter-ethnic relations and we must know that diversity makes us stronger and not weaker,” Xhaferi said.

“Finally, I make an invitation for deeper cooperation, even in content, in all possible areas of cooperation, referring to our obligations and our institutional rights, in the sense of building the welfare and cooperation of our citizens and our friendly countries,” Xhaferi concluded.

The two countries will intensify their cooperation, while Albania will continue to support Macedonia’s integration.
