Western Balkans heads and ministers to hold meeting organized by Vienna Economic Forum
In addition to Sofia’s long-awaited Summit between the European Union and the Western Balkans, another meeting will be held in Sofia between the leaders of the six Western Balkan countries and the Bulgarian Prime Minister, under the auspices of the Vienna Economic Forum.
The meeting, which will be attended by Prime Minister Rama, who will hold a speech there, along with other leaders of the region, will be held on 18 May in the Bulgarian capital.
On May 16, meanwhile, the Minister of Economy and Finance Arben Ahmetaj as well as the Minister Infrastructure and Energy Damian Gjiknuri will be present during the business forum that will be held in advance.
The May 16 meeting will see the attendance of EU High Representative Federica Mogherini, Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn and Donald Tusk.
The main topic of talks between leaders will be the economy and joint projects.
Vienna Forum Experts will present a number of alternatives to develop the economy in the region in the face of Western Balkan prime ministers.
Another goal of this initiative is the creation of a bridge between the Bulgarian and Austrian presidencies, with the latter taking effect on July 1 this year.
Present at the Sofia forum will be also business representatives.
Although the goal is to assess the potentials in different sectors, infrastructure is expected to be again at the heart of the talks, as it remains one of the main constraints on integration, especially the economic one in the region, and because a number of projects continue to remain pending.
